Sixty percent of organizations are in late-stage AI adoption. Only 27% have comprehensive governance in place. That’s not a statistic, it’s a wake-up call.
Lenovo’s fourth annual CIO Playbook surveyed 3000+ IT and business leaders across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Americas to understand where enterprise AI stands in 2026. The findings reveal a critical inflection point: AI is delivering proven returns – up to 179% ROI in some cases- but most organizations aren’t operationally ready to capture what comes next.
Three insights stand out for APAC leaders:
Agentic AI is the new priority, overtaking Generative AI, yet 60% of organizations admit they’re more than 12 months away from being ready to scale it. Only 21% report significant usage today.
Hybrid AI has won the architecture debate. Nearly two-thirds of enterprises now deploy across cloud, on-premises, and edge, not as a compromise, but as the only practical way to balance sovereignty, security, performance, and cost.
The constraint isn’t technology, it’s readiness. Data quality, governance frameworks, in-house expertise, and organizational alignment are determining who captures value and who watches competitors pull ahead.
Ninety-six percent of surveyed organizations are increasing AI investments in 2026. The question isn’t whether your peers are moving forward, it’s whether you have the foundations in place to keep pace.
The CIO Playbook cuts through vendor promises and pilot hype. It reveals what’s actually working, where leaders are struggling, and what separates those capturing returns from those still waiting.
